Does it make sense to send multipart/form-data between two servers or just base64(json())?
Or is this multi-part gimmick just to simulate submitting a file via a form, and the data can be safely and losslessly transferred with plain base64 via POST? Data - 400-500 kb in text, regularly.

There is a sense - the list of actions in case of errors is shorter, machines do not care.
https and tcp are responsible for "safe" and "lossless".
