IT education

Does it make sense to go to a good university with an IT direction, or is it better to stay at home and do self-study?

It is worth choosing either to study in another city at a university with a good rating, or to go to a local university to receive a scholarship of 6k and somehow combine it with self-education. There are enough points from the exam in the EKB and St. Petersburg is an average university, at the faculty of software engineering or there is applied mathematics and computer science. Please help me decide who has already passed this stage and can help the nubik ..

You will have to engage in self-education in any way, regardless of the university.
but the university, in addition to education itself, helps to pump up communication / social skills and acquire connections.

So you can immediately go to the army, they will teach you self-education there, and everything else.
