Does it make sense to encrypt an SSD drive on a maxi laptop, and is it harmful to the drive itself?

Actually, the question is in the topic.
Initial data: there is a macbook of the end of the 13th year, it has an SSD disk installed.
The original nakos (Mavericks) was standing, so whether it was encrypted or not, I don’t know, but I decided to upgrade to Yosemite and ran into a question during installation - do I want to encrypt my home folder and (I don’t seem to be sure) - the entire disk.
At the time of installation, I refused, but then two questions arose:
1. Does it make sense to encrypt data on a macbook, and if so, how should it be done - encrypt only the home directory or the entire disk?
2. How much does data encryption affect the life of an SSD?
Well, as a postscript - how much should you worry about the longevity and health of the SSD? I only download torrents to a RAM disk, but nevertheless, can there be any recommendations for working with an SSD so that it lives longer or is it not worth bothering about this? Three, if anything, included.

1) If you have private data with great value, then without encryption you can’t go anywhere.
2) what difference will die so die, the data is more important.

2. Now SSDs for home use are "eternal" - they will become obsolete before the resource is exhausted. You can't be sorry.

FileVault2 is native - I personally do not feel a difference in speed.
convenience also does not suffer - the password is asked just when you turn it on a little earlier (actually at the start of the system, and not after loading), the second time it does not ask
ps . since I turn off (or reboot) very rarely - it can be considered that there is simply no difference.
p.p.s. the whole partition is encrypted.

In general, there is a difference, especially when there are 300 gigs there, then you have to drive back, somewhere from 700mb / s to 200-300 sags. Something secret can be encrypted through the disk utility, there you can create an expandable archive type, it will ask for a password when opened, and then mount it as a disk. And in general, if it’s a laptop, then it’s better not to create a load on it also on the FS, because this will affect autonomy.
And the disk utility can work in the console, for example, you can encrypt the browser’s home folder and the folder with documents and write a script that will decrypt, with documents, then there are norms, and when you encrypt everything stupidly and the SSD is worth a terabyte, then the load is normal when updating information .
