Does having a Project Management Professional certification really matter?

Hello.
In vacancies for the position of Project Manager, there is a requirement - a PMP (Project Management Professional) certificate.
There is even a quote on the PMP information resource:

PMP also increases your financial potential. PMP certified holders earn 17 percent more than their non-certified counterparts, according to the Project Management Salary Survey - 8th Edition.

Is the presence of such a certificate really such an important factor in the selection of candidates by the employer? What are the chances for candidates without PMP?

This certificate is a really serious indicator, it is not so easy to get it.
But do not think that it is more important than skills and experience.
Financial potential - yes, it increases, but it depends on the person\company\project.
There are PMP projects with a salary of 100k, and there are projects without PMP but in a good office and project with a salary of 200k.

The presence of this certificate can be regarded as points. The more points, the higher your chances for employment.
For example:
Experience from 2 years: 20 points
Pmp: 5 points
Participation in an interesting project before. Place of work: 10 points
Google work: 10 points
Education 5-20 points
MBA 10 points
Etc.
Of course PMP is good. Look at your resume from an HR perspective. Assess the chances, and you will understand for yourself whether you need it ...
