Does adprep forestprep work on Windows server 2012 or has it been replaced?

I read somewhere that this utility only works up to Windows server 2008, but on Windows 2012 and 2016 it works through gui, my name was domain elevation, do I know correctly?

This utility is still located along the x:\support\adprep path in the distribution files. It's just that now (starting with Windows Server 2012) the process of raising the domain/forest functional level is integrated into the GUI and there is no need to do it through the adprep utility.

Adprep.exe is a command-line tool that extends the Active Directory schema and updates the permissions needed to prepare the forest and domain to work with domain controllers running Windows Server 2008 and above . required versions. This can be done through the Active Directory Domains and Trusts or Active Directory Users and Computers snap-ins, or using PowerShell (Set-ADDomainMode)

It works - but due to the fact that it is not possible to promote a domain through dcpromo, but only through Server Manager \ Powershell - there is a check for the need for forest prep \ domain prep and the wizard will warn you that you need to do this and do it yourself in the process.
