Does a domain zone affect SEO?

The question means this: does the choice of a particular domain zone affect promotion in search engines?
In particular, I'm thinking of buying a domain in the .xyz zone, but from experience - I have not seen sites in this zone in top positions. Plus all sorts of .info, .me, etc. also rarely found in top positions.
And further. There is a zone .ru and for example .com. The first is Russian, the second is international. Will the .ru zone have a positive effect on promotion in Russia compared to .com?
PS: The essence of the question is exactly how search robots treat this, not taking into account the human factor.

influence, but only country-specific, difficult
-to-register domain.de, domain.fr zones will be higher than de.domain.com, fr.domain.com, all other things being equal,
the same applies to countries where the first level cannot be registered, for example, com.au, co .uk (something changed in uk, I don’t remember, it seems that uk can already be just)
