Do you need a mail server for a medium to large web project?

Good afternoon. Help me understand if I need a mail server. At once I will make a reservation, now I use ordinary MTA - SSMTP (with a rayleigh through gmail). It seems to be working. But while the intensity of sending letters is not very high, now it took to send a large number of notifications (about a million a day), I want to understand if SSMTP is enough for my needs or is it time for me to delve into the structure of my own mail server? There is one more thing, I do not see outgoing letters, there is no interface where all letters would be stored and there would be an opportunity to view them...

GMail (and any other service designed to work specifically with mailboxes) will not allow you to send such volumes.
You need to either raise your server (and carefully and gradually, no one will send you a million letters a day at once), or use service providers for mailing letters.
