Do you know the maximum size of an ext4 fs?
Hi,
I'm interested to know the opinion of the community on the appropriateness of asking "interesting" questions in an interview.
For example, one of my friends was asked about ext4: "what is the maximum size of an ext4 fs?"
UPD: according to the employer, "a normal admin should remember this" :)

It seems to me that it is necessary to ask questions at an interview that either make you think, or knowing the answer to them is critical.
Knowing that FAT32 has a maximum file size of 4Gb was once critical.
Knowing the differences between myisam and innodb is important for development, etc.
Thinking about a task that requires knowledge of some patterns is similar.
But the knowledge that the maximum size of ext4 2 60 is of no practical use and is easily obtained in 1 minute in Google.
the size of one file is up to 16 tebibytes, then this file system has no limits only in the size of the disk array
16tb
in general is easy to remember when working with large storages,
who has not worked with large storages, of course, will not know this, let alone remember
Somewhere around e2fsprogs/e2fslibs 1.42, the limit became 2^60 for file size, 2^40 for file size.
Prior to this (e.g. Ubuntu Hardy, Debian Lenny without backports) the limit was exactly 16 TiB.
This is the correct answer to the question if you position yourself as an admin with 2-3+ years of experience.
