Do search bots use cookies when crawling?

The site maintains a visit log, where the visitor is tied to the session. Each page loading by a robot from one ip causes the creation of a new session. Search robots do not use cookies when crawling, or is it some kind of glitch?

a bot, when it appears to be a bot, does not use cookies.
