Do search bots understand JS?

As things are now with search robots, they have learned to follow links through Javascript or still look at sites like a text browser.

Yes, they understand.
Certainly they form a page taking into account JS, and then analyze it.
But it's better not to do that. If you interfere with search robots, then this is a minus for the site.
