Do I need to update something in the OS when adding resources (VPS)?

Good evening.
There are VPS'ki based on KVM, it is possible to install from your own image, I wanted to install clean ubuntu or debian myself. There is only experience on VirtualBox, but according to the articles it seems to be no different.
Let's say I take the weakest VPS with 256MB of RAM, a weak processor and 5GB of space. And tomorrow I change to 4GB of RAM, a more powerful processor (2-4 cores) and 50-100GB of space. How should the OS accept these resources? I take it I need to reconfigure everything myself? And yet, if you do not plan to use more than 4GB of RAM, does it make sense to choose a 32-bit OS?
Thanks

On KVM in this situation, you will have to create a new VPS. with this option it is better to use the cloud.

If the screw increases, then there may be several options
: you can hack and kill the data on disk
2 - your virtual disk has become larger, but the partitions have not changed, then you need to either create another partition and mount it yourself, or change the size of the existing one, while the latter is problematic. usually one partition is created and the system lives from it

I can say what will happen in the case of xen, but here I think the same - if you change the percentage / memory, you may need to reboot for the changes to take effect.
As for the disk - if your disk is marked for one partition, then the hoster's automation upon reboot can automatically change its size to fit all available space, both upward and downward. But this point must be clarified with a specific hoster.
