Do I need to configure the switch?

Do switches need to be configured? Or is everything automatically configured in them, and the Internet channel and other users do not care what slot they are plugged into? If not lit on the front screen, no one is anywhere when connected from the back. Does this mean a technical malfunction of the switch?

You do not need to configure (you can reset to factory settings).
Most likely yes, because the port should "burn" when the device is connected (if it is turned on and working properly).
