Do fonts load the system?

Interested in the question, do large fonts load the system? There is an 8MB font, I opened it and didn’t notice anything particularly surprising there. If you replace all large fonts with those that weigh up to 1mb (for example)
, will there be any changes in the phone?

Nothing. These fonts contain characters for many languages. If you don't care about seeing squares instead of, say, Chinese characters, you can safely replace them with smaller versions.
But why? The vacated space still cannot be used.
