Do domain aliases only work locally or remotely too?

I mean, when adding www.to a domain as an alias, you need to write this alias in the hosts. So, will this only work locally or remotely too? If not, how to make this alias available to all other Internet users.

hosts only affects your local computer. On the Internet, both subdomains and aliases are configured in DNS .
