Disk partitioning theory when installing linux?

Hello , I will be grateful for the answers
1) when partitioning the disk during the installation process (debian 10), is it correct to tick the use boot flag for the /boot partition? As I know from theory, yes
2) when partitioning, when you go inside some disk, there is an earise partition data, does it make sense to clear the partition by selecting this option ?, or will the system automatically format itself?

1) optional, the installer will put down when grub enters
2) it means "cleaning the disk", that is, full (not quick) formatting. the system will format itself, but "quickly"

I would like to add on point 2 that it depends on the need.
I have sections like this:

/dev/sda2 / ext4
/dev/sda1 /boot vfat
/dev/sdb2 /home ext4
/dev/sda3 none swap

/dev/sdb2 is 2TB with all the data I need.
If I want to reinstall the system (although I have not done so since 2015), I will erase the data of all partitions except /dev/sdb2, and for it, without formatting, I will choose a mount point in /home

2) this is for the case when the media already has a set of partitions. for example, from a "broken linux", respectively, you can delete information from the section or leave it.

1. If the MBR partition table is yes. If GPT - you need a partition with the EFI type, which will become bootable.
2. You can not clear it if partitions are formatted during installation. It's not that you can't do that - it's just double work.
