Deduplication: Host or Guest?
Good afternoon!
There is a server with the Hyper-V role, Windows Server 2019, it has several virtual machines. One of the virtual machines is a file server.
The host has two HDDs in RAID1 for the system partition (Disk 1), and also two HDDs in RAID1 for files (Disk 2). I see two options for placing files:
1. Disconnect Disk 2 from the host and connect it directly to the virtual machine, store files there.
2. On Disk 2, place the VHD file of the virtual machine on the entire volume of Disk 2.
How would it be better?
And this begs the question - where to enable deduplication - on the host for disk 2? Or in a virtual machine?
