Debian VS Windows Server 2012?
Hello. The matter is that earlier I had no experience of administration of servers. I wanted to create a home server. For what needs - I don’t really understand yet, most likely, file storage and a small game server. The advantage of Debian is simplicity. The advantages of Windows Server 2012 are mainly in the familiar interface. However, in Windows Server, the possible resource consumption for the needs of this very interface is scary.

Try Linux, it won't work - you can always switch to win. At the same time, for a start, I would not even advise Debian, but the extreme LTS to Ubuntu. Slightly newer packages, a lot of documentation and community. There is nothing wrong with linux, for some tasks it is much easier to configure than win, but at first it will take a lot of free time to read the documentation.
What is better to rent a prostitute or start a long-term relationship with a girl? With Windows it will be easier and faster at first, but with debian you will be able to comprehend the full depth of administration....
why don't we have both?
Play around with both servers on virtual machines first ;)

If your goal is only a small home server, then choose win2012. It is much easier to set up and make it work as you need :)
If you want to gain experience and harsh skills along the way, then install Linux, but not debian, but some arch or something worse.
I would advise not even debian, ubuntu, arch, but such a zentyal
