Custom smarttv firmware, how difficult is it, where can I find info?

Is a similar situation practiced, as for example with android?
How difficult is it to assemble your own firmware?
How likely is it to turn tv into a brick?))
The software is extremely hanging and the smarthub offers to cram a bunch of built-in software that cannot be refused.

It is not worth it. Most TVs still have stripped-down risc processors and the firmware turns out to be very hardware dependent, which kills their wide distribution. Scaling can occur even if the factory firmware is incorrectly updated, not like custom.
Now a freer and more popular direction is various android flash drives and boxes, which the Chinese sell from $ 30, there is a full-fledged android, which is suitable for standard programs from the market, as well as all the community and api. Write your applications, shells, and so on on it, without fear for the TV and having support, an audience of the entire android community, and not just enthusiastic owners of your TV model.

For smartTVs, custom firmware is considered a violation, so they are not officially supported, and are discouraged by manufacturers.
I've been working with LG for a while - TVs that go into production are blocked from flashing.
But on the Internet there are forums of enthusiasts who are trying to unbrick and flash with custom firmware.
It can be problematic to assemble your firmware, but it is possible. For example, WebOS was partially opensource, that is, it would be possible to dig deeper, but figure out the assembly, although it can be assembled from scratch for about 5-6 hours and require about 100 gigabytes of free space for the build.
You are dear to the forums of enthusiasts.
