Could overheating of the video memory be the cause of the driver glitch?
The situation is this. There is a GeFroce 9600GT video card. On drivers higher than 285, the monitor may turn off, while the sound continues to go. Only reboot helps. Most often this happens when I use Flash Player or in games.
In this case, the core temperature is not higher than 55 degrees.
Can the memory overheat and cause such a shutdown?
If not, what could be the issue?
By the way, on the old driver, I can overclock the core from 700 to 800 MHz and the memory from 1000 to 1100 and it works stably, without failures. But with new drivers, even at default frequencies, there are problems.

I had a similar story with the Samsung SyncMaster 940N monitor, it has a vertical power wire, and while playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, I caught the wire under the table with my foot and the image disappeared. At first, I didn't know what it was either.
Just in case of a fire, check if you have something similar :) Install
the SpeedFan program: www.almico.com/speedfan.php
It shows the temperature of the processor and video card. Temperatures above 50 degrees are already a mess. Must be cleaned of dust. Overheating of the crystal can cause image loss. Functional blocks of the card can be disabled to avoid its burnout.
Also had the same problem.
Check if there is sufficient air flow to the video card? If you open the case and allow air to freely enter the case, is there a problem?
Vidyahu, in addition to its own cooler, also blows a 120mm case cooler, a direct stream of air from it blows on the video. The core in loads rarely reaches 60 degrees, usually 54-55. Really memory can overheat at such situation.
I tried it with an open case - the same thing.
You are not alone with your problem: www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/340996-15-whats-wrong-nvidia-grafics-card-monitor-turning
There really is no normal answer in the topic :)
If the video memory overheats, colored squares or stripes will appear across the image, and geometry may be distorted in 3D graphics. Complete disappearance of the image in my practice did not meet. Perhaps the monitor stops receiving a picture and goes to sleep. The reason is clearly in the driver. Overheating is doubtful.
Run FurMark and see how temperature affects performance.
there were cards with a physical defect that gave exactly a driver error.
on some old drivers, they nevertheless plowed, but under load they hung tightly or artifacts began.
I would replace the video card, because. I suspect an iron problem
