Connecting an external wi-fi adapter to Virtualbox?

There is an external wi-fi adapter. I want to connect it directly to the virtual machine. Is that possible?

I have tried the following. In the virtual machine settings (in this case it is Windows 10, Ubuntu host) I selected Network > Bridged Adapter > and selected the Name of my external connected Wi-Fi adapter.

After that I turn on the virtual machine - there is no network. I expected to see a connected adapter and a list of Wi-Fi networks inside the virtual machine. It's impossible? How to connect it all? I seem to have done something similar a couple of years ago successfully, but I can't for the life of me remember how.

@triggerfinger

Network forwarding and port forwarding are slightly different things, don't you think?)
