Connecting an external device to Android

I want to use a cheap Chinese tablet with Android 2.1 as a smart external display with a touchscreen. But before buying and picking up a soldering iron, it is interesting to find out from the people if there is an opportunity in Android to read some kind of physical pin and set some kind of external signal? Or at least something like a com port?
Just point your finger at me, in which direction to look for this?

“Quietly with myself ...”
Googling prompted me to Android Open Accessory , but again at the expense of USB, which I would not want to borrow. We will look further or think in the direction of Manchester-2 through the audio jack 8-)

There is already a USB camcorder. Of course, if there are no other options, then the USB host and hub will save the father of Russian democracy, but this will already be the “china way”

A little out of order.
If there is bluetooth in the android hardware,
I would take oem-bluetooth with a comport output, hang a microcontroller on it and pull everything you need with its feet.
