Compromise of the mailgun API key, what could be the consequences?

Hello,
As I understand in mailgun, there is only one api key for all domains.
What happens if the key is compromised? Will someone be able to access the emails (account) or use it in their projects? In general, what is the point of hiding it :) ?

The result may be different, depending on whose hands it falls into.
Sending spam on someone else's behalf, etc.
