Choosing a laptop to replace your home PC

I want to buy a laptop to replace my home. While looking after hp probook 4720s, good performance and diagonal 17 suits.
The computer will be used for office and possibly for games ...
Can you advise some analogues or warn about possible jambs of hp.

Games-games are different. As well as office programs. Look at their requirements, usually any product is accompanied by the characteristics of the minimum and optimal hardware configuration.
Please note that a number of games are optimized for a specific graphics card manufacturer, therefore games that work perfectly on NVidia may often work differently on Radeon, and sometimes not at all.
When buying a laptop, you should understand that its main difference from the desktop is as follows.
1. The cost of a laptop is largely determined by the value of the brand. Vaio with similar stuffing will never cost even close to Acer. At the same time, reliability is not always an indicator of a brand. There are “successful” models, but there is also a complete failure for both. The percentage of "failed" from the total number is another question :)
2. The cost of a laptop with the same power compared to a desktop is always higher. This is the need to fit everything in a compact version, and the brand, and issues of heat removal, etc.
3. Upgrading laptops, unlike desktops, is problematic and expensive. As well as acceleration. As well as service :)
4. When choosing a laptop, you should understand that all new items will certainly cost a lot, and in six months you will be surprised to see that now they have lost somewhere in the price of 20-30%, if not more. Therefore, it is pointless to take a “super-duper”, it is more logical to take a proven “average”.
5. If you are interested in comparing performance, there are excellent summary tables for video cards and processors. If you are not very strong in technical characteristics, focus at least on the place in the rating. And keep in mind: within five to ten neighboring "places" you will practically not feel the difference.
6. Consider an important point: powerful video cards and processors heat up. Often a lot. If the laptop is poorly designed, then overheating will lead to emergency shutdowns and automatic performance degradation. Therefore, “powerful” solutions from not very reputable firms should be alarming. Read the forums, look at the reviews - do not repeat the mistakes of others.
7. Typically, the price of a laptop discreetly includes the cost of a pre-installed operating system. It, of course, comes at a discount, but ... I will not discuss the advisability of buying with a pre-installed OS - everyone decides, but analogues with DOS or Linux will always be cheaper.
There is plenty more information here .
I wish you a successful purchase!

I took Asus K42JC in October - i5, 4Gb RAM, 500 HDD, 14", 802.11n, 3xUSB 2.0, D-SUB, HDMI, Intel HD + GeForce 310m. I took it for educational and work needs + games. on discrete graphics with almost full detail fredny fps is not lower than 30, in unloaded scenes 50-60 is stable. VERY quiet. I thought to take a monitor to it, but I got used to 14 "quickly - I only periodically connect via HDMI to 42" plasma.

Definitely market.yandex.ru/model.xml?modelid=6433865&hid=91013&suggest=1 (or market.yandex.ru/model.xml?modelid=6504607&hid=91013&suggest=1 - with a regular keyboard). It will be especially good for games with Radeon HD 5650 inside.

This changes everything.
I wanted to take a good laptop 3 months ago for work and gaming. And took Sony VPCEB2Z1R. for 40k. A very worthy choice. I thought that there is still an overpayment for the brand, but no. The laptop justifies its cost.

Since September I have been sitting on HP Probook 4520s. Very satisfied, no complaints. Works stably and holds a charge for a long time. HP knows how to make good laptops.

Also chose a replacement for a desktop PC. I searched for a long time, looked at reviews, reviews ... the list was limited to two laptops: HP Pavilion dv6-3155sr and Samsung R780E. According to the characteristics, they are almost the same. All the same, I chose HP Pavilion dv6-3155sr because of the matte case.

Dell vostro 3500.
Core i5 460M(2.53), RAM 3072MB, 320Gb, 15.6'HD, GF G310M_512M
There is a 3700 with a diagonal of 17". I took it for work, it's also enough to play. One of the distinguishing features is a matte screen. The battery lasts around 4 hours .Quite light compared to my previous Lenovo y510

As a replacement for a desktop computer for myself, I took a Macbook Pro, but there is a different budget, up to 80t.r.
Enough for work, entertainment, games and looks presentable.

I bought a Sony Vaio VGN-AW31M a year ago for $750 (almost new, used, no traces of use from Holland). 18.4" screen and full-sized keyboard are very convenient.
Well, besides it, Lenovo x200s for camping mode.

If I were in the place of the author of the question, I would take any netbook (!), Now I have Asus EeePC, I am very pleased with it. An extremely convenient thing on trips (mobility + power consumption).
For non-permanent games, I advise you to use any seventh generation game console (I personally have an Xbox 360 Slim).
