Choosing a language for writing scripts / simple applications under Linux?

Now I work mainly on Linux and often need to write simple scripts / applications. At the moment I am doing it on bash and I want to master a more serious programming tool, and therefore I am faced with a choice of which programming language to take on thoroughly - C# or Python . Previously, I studied C # under Windows for a short time, so I certainly draw to a more or less familiar one, but Python beckons with its versatility.
Both languages are about equally popular, and, it seems to me, are the same in terms of learning difficulty.
Advise, comrades, on what to stop.

Python, of course, if you choose from these two. It is more suitable for scripting, it has REPL and so on. C# is generally not suitable for a script, especially under Linux.

If simple - then / bin / sh adnaznachna. Both speed and versatility. If it's a little more complicated - well, I usually take up Perl in this case.
