Choose a specialty in IT as an additional one?
The question arose about the development of a second specialty, because. firstly, there is a lot of free time, and secondly, there is a long-standing indestructible desire to try one's hand in other areas of human activity. After exploring various possibilities, my choice fell on IT. I got acquainted with various specialties on specialized sites like YaP, read blogs, forums, etc.
First of all, the soul fell on Data Science, because. Even from the university it was a pleasure to deal with mathematics and related sciences. Then, in descending order, I paid attention to Data Analytics, Phyton / Java programming (I can turn on the introvert mode), etc.
About me: VO technical, 44 years old, English - advanced (C1), computer skills - at the level of a confident user (I mainly use tables at work), three years ago I reached the top in a marine career - there is nowhere to move higher, so there are some managerial skills, it has become boring, the children have grown up and do not get in the way, vacation from 3 to 5 months - there is a desire to spend time usefully, preferably without leaving home. I am not afraid to constantly learn and develop - at work I do just that.
Dear IT gurus, what school (JP, Geek Brains, etc.) and specialty (Data Science, Data Analyst, etc.) would you recommend? Will my age scare off a potential employer/customer? How to find him, my first, not shy?

It is a good idea to invest in yourself, the main thing is not to the detriment of your family.
Regarding the input data - a technical tower and English, an excellent plus for the start, but:
Firstly, they go to DS with knowledge of python, and as a rule they take middle pythonists, or pre-middles there. I have not heard that people without experience would be taken from the street. Although 44 years old (after all, experience and status + English may well play into your hands here).
As for free time - in order to normally swing to an adequate jun in any area of average complexity - you need a year of 4-6 hours of daily hard work and absorption of tons of information. Then another 2-3 years is needed until a confident middle.
The best and most adequate option is to look for an internship in some large company in 3-4 months, to put pressure on English and pet projects, because it’s difficult to push your way through a junior in any field. On IT schools to score - there are a bunch of free resources with materials, from free youtube \ courses hunter, to udemy + books + forums + communities.
The best option of all is to find a working employee from a large company (monitor a habr career, for example, look for seniors who are ready to make a sane beginner out of you in 2-3-4 months for 2-3-4 months), ask him for mentoring , and then he pulls you into his company. A friend in Moscow did this with Java, 38 years old - an excellent flight.
Additionally master:
git
linux (shell)
sql
these 3 points are needed in all specialties in it
DS in all courses is shown easier than it is. If there is no excellent base in mathematical analysis + statistics + probability theory, the entry threshold there at the beginning of a career, in my opinion, is higher than in testing / web development
