Change number of wookomers columns based on screen size?

How to change the number of products in the row, i.e. display in 4 columns or 3 columns or 2 columns depending on the screen size of the device.
By simply changing css width:... and clear: .... (in @media) it doesn't work,
?? It seems to me that for a different display of the number of columns, the markup is somehow formed in different ways ....
