Cataloging and filtering on the site?

We recently started the development of the site, encountered some difficulties in the development of one section.
The target audience of the site are people who have started planning repairs or are engaged in them.
Now some information has been collected on the performers - types of work, materials used, prices.
Now we are thinking about how to break such specialists into categories. The decision "on the forehead" suggests itself - Specialization, material. But it’s not always clear to customer people what kind of specialist they need to contact, they need “to warm the floor” or “pretty lighting in the kitchen”. But some want to find a specific specialist, he knows exactly who he needs and does not want to waste time filtering out overly blurry filters.
Now we plan to take some steps:
Clarify with the builders their vision on this issue.
Interview people (forums on new buildings, offline surveys).
Who can tell how to proceed in this case?
There is no experience of lifting sites yet, before that they were limited only to technical issues.

@slavik

it is possible by categories with the usual subcategories: construction, decoration, electrical and a couple of selections - groups of the same categories, but, for example, in thematic blocks: Kitchen (windows, floor, walls, ceiling), Rooms, Cottage

I would do several search options in the catalog - well, a description when choosing a search option - for example, if I know exactly what I need plumbing - I’m unlikely to go into the decoration of balconies and bedrooms,
and if I want to search by keywords - no one bothers me to drive in in the search field "plumbing, pipes, sewerage, bath".
and it’s even better to follow the example of the Yandex market - a filter on the side, a field for keywords on top,
a catalog for the rest of the place ...
