Can you recommend books written for self-taught students?

Suggest books written and structured specifically for easy self-study. Like "Programming. Principles and Practice of Using C++" by Staustrup.

Books by Herbert Schildt. For languages C/C++, Java, C#. Not enough water, there are exercises. Everything is explained consistently and clearly. I myself learned from such and I already teach others.
