Can't SSH into AWS. What am I doing wrong?

Good morning. I created two instances on Amazon Web Services, received a key for connecting via SSH, which is a pem file. But when I try to connect via the Filezilla FTP client, nothing works for me.
1) I can't figure out what username I need to specify to connect?
2) What should be specified in the host field? External IP of the server or its DNS address?
3) I chose the "Key file" login type and specified the path to the key file with pem extension.
Nothing works. What am I doing wrong?
Filezilla gives this error - Disconnected: No supported authentication methods available (server sent: publickey)

@eprivalov

using puttygen from the putty set, you need to generate a public key from the .pem key and feed it for ssh connection
