Can't install Linux Mint via USB (grub-install error), how to fix?
At the end of the installation on a blank HDD (I select Erase Windows), a window appears: "The command 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed. This is a fatal error." After this window, no actions help even restart the computer. When choosing other items - the same story. Help. I install from a flash drive, everything is according to the guides, but there is no such problem in the guides, but I have =)

The solution turned out to be this: There were 2 screws on the computer, one of them (main / boot) was with Windows, the second screw was needed to install Linux. During installation, the second screw was specified for installing the bootloader, but then I noticed that the second screw is marked as /dev/sd b , and during installation it is indicated as the bootloader, and the first screw is marked as /dev/sd a . With the error "Failed to execute the command 'grub-install /dev/sd a '. This is a fatal error" I see that the hornbeam is trying to climb into the wrong place ... I thought that this might be the problem.
Solution: I went into Bios, rearranged the boot priority for the screws and swapped them in Boot, the second became the first, the first became the second. Install Linux Mint - voila! Everything works... unexpectedly, one wonders why ask which screw to put the bootloader in if grub ignores this and crawls into the first one...
and what does it mean "on a blank HDD" but there is an item "Erase Windows"?
a clean HDD is generally clean, that is, there is nothing on it
