Can site files be stored on an external drive?

Good morning, colleagues.
I develop a site on a local machine, MAC OS, APACHE and MYSQL are installed.
All project files are in a separate folder: Mac/Users/Oleg/Webserver .....
There is already little space left on the SSD, about 10 GB, the total size is 128 GB, of which there are 49 GB projects.
Is it possible to keep all site files on an external drive and also a database? And how to set it all up?

Do not suffer with mount points, because of inexperience you will mess up how to drink to give). Read about symlinks, this decision is made faster and clearer for you.
