Can I install an M.2 NVMe drive instead of an M.2 SATA drive in a laptop if the keys are the same for both?

Hello.
There is an HP Omen 15-ax206ng laptop. The technical brochure contains a description of various modifications of this model, including those where an NVMe SSD is installed. I have a modification with M.2 SATA, which I want to replace with NVMe, and even found a model suitable for the connector (with 2 keys), i.e. physically the disk must be plugged in. The question is, is it logically recognized and how to find out, maybe there are general principles independent of the manufacturer? For example, if it fits physically, it will fit logically. Or can this connector only transfer data via SATA?
(My model is with the GTX 1050, logically, the chipset and connectors are the same for everyone, only the video cards and their accompanying sets of drives differ, therefore, you can install any configuration)

Thank you.

I had a question, but is the old SSD attached to the laptop ..
If it is attached, then it is hardly possible to replace from SSD to NVMe.
Because If you replace the Wi-Fi module, the system boot fails (if you do not update the BIOS firmware), the manufacturer intentionally prescribed a binding to the serial numbers of the equipment in the BIOS.
