Can an SSH access key be combined with FTP?

I work with VPS through two programs - FileZilla and Putty (I will not switch to others). The first one is for fast uploading of files, the second one is for managing processes (I rarely use the second one, but I usually start some processes). So, I go to Putty as root, because I didn’t really delve into the account of some users. I just log in as root, constantly copy the long password, and log in. I do my business and go out. In FTP Also - I specify root, the password, port and I come. But here it is clear that it is not entirely ergonomic to endlessly copy the password. There are some keys.. Can they be compatible with FileZilla?
And in general, what else would you recommend? It is desirable to describe in more detail, if possible - then throw off a link to the FAQ.
