Can a virtual machine be backed up while it is running?

A virtual machine is running in VM Ware Workstation. While it is running, can I copy it in a file using Veeam Backup? Will she work after that? Is it possible to do so?

To do is possible. Will it work later - will. Whether and here the copy restored from a backup -
not the fact will work. It depends on what services are spinning inside, and what they are doing exactly at that moment.

Depends on several factors.
In general, you can copy a virtual machine file during operation, and if you do it correctly, for example, using shadow copying, everything will work fine.
But how exactly Veeam Backup works is better to ask the manufacturers of this product.

I won’t say anything about Veeam, Nakivo does it. How is it implemented? Yes, just like everyone else - a snapshot, which is then backed up.

Veeam integrates perfectly with VMWare products, file backup is important, why don't you use a quiesce snapshot?
