Can a Private Person fail when purchasing and selling a domain through a reseller?

If you buy and hold a domain through a reseller, while indicating the need to hide personal data from WhoIs services, is it possible that, for example, upon renewal, or due to something else, your Private Person status will be changed to normal, and the data will become public?
