Can a person be proficient in more than one language?

Hello everyone, I raised a topic with a friend in which he said that a person cannot be a professional in several areas of development. You can be a master at one thing, or an amateur at a bunch, and I gave this analogy:

Well, what do you need to play like a pro in CS? Constantly train!
If you play CS for an hour, then DotA for an hour, then WOW for an hour, then StarCraft2 for an hour, then Lineage 2 for an hour, then LOL for an hour, then Diablo 3 for an hour, then you won’t be able to learn to play a single game properly, and you won't get anything right in any game!
In programming, everything is absolutely the same!
Choose one direction and study it diligently!

I want to ask your opinion on this matter, comrades. In your opinion, can a person be able to develop well in php and pythone at the same time, while at the same time having a good understanding of the principles of the nodejs + mongodb bundle? Or be a good back-ender and front-ender at the same time, be able to write a good back-end in php for example + be able to make beautiful visual effects in canvas using 3d libraries?
Or be able to write both desktop and browser applications, there are many analogies, both not very divergent and very :)

@dmitryprogrammer

it's like with ordinary languages.
The more languages you know, the easier it is to learn the next one.
