a general knowledge question: can the presence of a user behind a corporate VPN (IPSec protocol) affect how a web page is processed and displayed? In particular, the transmission and processing of CORS headers?

It may influence. Usually kors is configured for hosts, although you can cheat a lot in policies and web servers work differently for external and internal ones. In general, see the whole bunch from the client to the server.
