Can a client opt out of a site?
Hello!
This is the first time I've encountered such a situation and a Google search did not give the necessary information. We made a site on WP for the client, as he wanted, everything was done in good faith, only licensed or official plugins, the theme was developed by ourselves on Elementore, because there was an exclusive design (it was necessary to repeat the design exactly, in fact, this was the TK). The site was transferred to the hosting of the client, and he chose the hosting and the tariff himself (the cheapest, shared), all accesses were handed over, in a word, the work was handed over. There was no talk about supporting the site, well, ok, I think they will mature later. A month and a half later, the site is hacked (black seo, there is a random redirect to some kind of advertising). We say ok, we'll see, but it will be paid. They don’t want to pay for it, they turn to the hoster, which, apparently, just rolls back (he did everything very quickly) and everything seems to be working. After some time, the site is hacked again. They call us to see if. Ok, we answer, let's see what can be done, but how much the work will cost is still unclear, but approximately in such and such a range. The conversation goes on the phone, we do diagnostics, find viruses in js, remove them, install a protection plugin and write to them that the work has been done, the cost is such and such (included in the range). We get the answer: you did not agree on the exact price with us, so we will not pay and in general you made a bad site, since it is hacked). We insist that the work should be paid and that in a good way, the site should be dealt with (updating plugins, etc.) To which they tell us that you are just trying to get money, but in fact you made a bad site and we can take it back and return it to them money, and they will order from others (nb The site is small, informational, for one startup, which, as it turned out, did not take off). The question is what is it at all? .. We are meeting with this for the first time. Should developers be held responsible for hacking a site? The situation is complicated by the fact that there was no contract as such, it was just a TK and that's it. Therefore, there are no prescribed conditions for guarantees, and even more so for the return of the site. Nb The hoster could shed some light on the hacking situation, but it’s purple for him, for him this is not his main business at all, so .. a side business, he’s not even on the list of hosters, he’s only been doing this for a year, technical support is terrible, they may not answer for a day or two. All attempts to convince the owner to change hosting were unsuccessful. that there was no contract as such, it was just a TK and that's it.
