How to sell yourself to a customer?

Hello.
I decided to try myself in freelancing (layout), but for the 2nd month I have not been able to get a project.
How should you market yourself? I do not know what to do.
It seems that I don’t answer with short formulaic phrases like “I’m ready to take on your project”, on the contrary, I try to ask questions of interest, clarify something, paint everything on the shelves, terms, price, etc. But all to no avail, what else do they need?
I agree that there is competition and the more responses to the order, the less my chances, but damn it, 2 months and nothing. Moreover, I am aware that I will cope with this order, i.e. I do not respond to any difficult tasks for me.
What am I doing wrong? How to answer correctly, what else can interest the customer?

Portfolio? Do you have a portfolio? If not, get it. Get yourself another github, for example. The customer needs to see that you did something.
On clothes, for example, without a portfolio it is difficult to find an order. I know, some people even made a bid without a portfolio and received an order without any problems, but basically everything is not so fast.
If there is a portfolio, but the project cannot be accepted, look for less paid projects. The bottom line is to prove yourself, and then everything will go easier.

It may seem strange, but reconsider your price tag. I wanted to start with a couple of inexpensive projects for feedback, and only then raise the price. As a result, the conversation did not even reach $7. It was worth raising it to $20, as literally a couple of days later I received the first draft.

I pay attention to talkativeness, availability of reviews, portfolio, deadlines and price. If all these criteria are satisfied, then we work.

You don't need to sell yourself :)
You need to be able to present yourself beautifully. The more work you have in your portfolio, the more interesting you are to the customer.

It’s clear about the fortofolio, but what should be in the system administrator’s portfolio? ))
