Caddy+SSD, hard drive icon on during boot. Why is it sometimes so stupid?
Hp Probook 4540s bio-updated to latest
windows 10 x64
boot from UEFI
Good afternoon. I bought an SSD for the Sandisk Plus G27 system, I
bought a Caddy. Because there is support for SATA III, then I stuffed it there.
I restored the system using Acronis True Image on the SSD
Deleted the Recovery, EFI, System C:\ partitions (on the hard drive)
In the BIOS, I indicated boot using bootmgr (it was still possible to boot using an optical drive (Uefi). There is no difference - and so it is so loads)
Like all the rules. Only sometimes it happens that this happens during boot:
After the BIOS is initialized, when the windows logo appears, nothing happens after that.
BUTthe hard disk icon is lit. Fully lit and not blinking. So it is not clear whether it is frozen
or whether it is very actively reading / writing. By noise It seems that the disk head does not move
When you press (not to be confused with a 5 second clamp) the shutdown button, the laptop is cut down .
This can happen once 10/5/2 reboots.
Sometimes it can happen 2 times. SFC, Chckdsk, found no problems. Restored using BCD (did not help)
Switching the toggle switch in optibei did not solve the problem either (there are 2 switch modes. Please do not write about changing between hdd and ssd
there is a wonderful thing hp drive guard (which protects the HDD from damage)
very necessary in my case
In short: the laptop does not care where the disk is, it parks the head in both sockets. And input/output of both disks
Where to dig? What logs to watch? Who had a similar problem? Or maybe the curve got caught?

The problem is rather in the
crooked
bios
, which does not completely disable the Fast Boot function and does not initialize the disks correctly
. -----------
noteworthy is this: a separate disabling of these functions does not solve the problem,
which clearly hints at the possibility of a crooked Boot Manager
. when it was basic with fastboot enabled (which only loads HDD port 0 and PXE), the optical drive was not initialized at all. and it was not visible in the boot menu. And with a dynamic HDD it can be seen. Magic probably
------------------------
to check, I ran the command in autorun in the normal mode
shutdown /r /t 120
exit
30 seconds to the desktop + 2 minutes to restart
OS boot mrg priority > 1.5 hours all ok
Priority Optical drive > 1 hour all
ok As a result, the problem was solved, everything loaded normally
UPD: I tried this too: I
returned the disk back to the base one
, changed the partition to logical.
The problem surfaced again, but in the first method, all the rules are
a pity, of course, you can’t watch movies from Linux)
Most likely, problems with the HDD - some sector is poorly read at startup, even though it does not boot from it.
It happened - I threw a problematic HDD to my computer - the brakes begin.
Stupidly disconnect the HDD and turn it on - off - reboot several times.
Draw conclusions from the result.
