Business direction in software development

Greetings, dear habrareaders and brave writers.
Given: a small software company that now writes custom business process automation software. In fact, we create ERP.
In the future, I see 2 ways of business development:
1) Look for projects in the same direction and develop your product, which will continue to be sold.
2) Start looking also for projects in other areas of software development - mobile platforms, web projects, etc. Maybe even sell third-party software.

What are the + and - for each of these directions?

@constpetrov

1) +This is your product
- in order to develop above a certain level, you need a good team. The graph is logarithmic.
2) + Development in breadth allows you to occupy parts of a larger number of markets
- an even better team is required (if you continue to somehow support your products).

After a little searching, I found a small list of literature on your topic (most interesting). The first two books are about business and software development in general:
1. Eric Sink. Business for programmers. How to start your own business
narod.ru/disk/39622675001/Business.Soft_Soc.Moy.SU.zip.html
2. Rework. Business without prejudice

3. Here are written mini-knings about outsourcing by one guy for our realities, you need to register on the site for downloading (there is a format for an e-book):
- 10 steps to create your IT outsourcing company
— 12 ways to increase the profitability of your IT outsourcing company
