Booting kali from flash drive?

Hello. Burned kali linux to a flash drive. Everything started for the first time on a poppy from a flash drive without problems.
On restart, a black screen is shown. Formatted the flash drive, wrote the image again. Again, almost always a black screen, sometimes the first screen appears, where live or install is selected. But immediately freezes and nothing can be selected.
The image was written using dd.
What am I doing wrong?
