The university taught a course on this book Telecommunications and Networks . What are you interested in, in the 3rd chapter ( table of contents )

For initial acquaintance I would recommend the book by V. Olifer, N. Olifer Computer Networks. Principles, technologies, protocols For an initial acquaintance with the subject, it will do just fine. Further study (more advanced mathematically) should probably be continued with B. Sklyar Digital Communications or J. Prokis Digital Communications

In principle, we studied the basics of encoding and transmitting information at the university according to Zyuko “Theory of Signal Transmission”. The book is old, 72, but the basics of the theory of communication are well stated.
and then really Olifer is worth reading
