Backend need vps?

All my life I have been writing only the front, layout, design, sometimes functions in php.

For the purpose of self-development, I chose the direction in the backend, I write the front on react, customers often ask about the control system, I transfer them to specialists.

I started looking for information, I realized that for the backend you can choose node, Java, python, php, etc.

Actually the question for the server part is VPS needed? Regular hosting won't work?

Maybe the question is stupid, and it's funny) But there is nothing funny in development, I'm interested, I'm interested) thanks.

depends.
for puff (if exotic is not required), almost any hosting is suitable.
there are specialized hostings for python/ruby/node.
vps is suitable for everything.
and still there is a server-less.
