Autocomplete from REST API?

If the jQuery Autocomplete plugin is great: https://jqueryui.com/autocomplete/
How can I make it pull these autocomplete results from the REST API?
I myself am not familiar with the rest api, I don’t need to poke around a lot in this, they just asked me to implement autocomplete from the rest api.
It is easy to make it take the results from an array or from a file, as in the plugin examples, but here's how I generally xs from this rest.
