Authorization or authentication?

Maybe a stupid question, but still. In a nutshell, authentication is authentication, authorization is the granting of rights. By authentication, I mean entering a username / password. On many sites, entering a username and password is usually accompanied by the verb "login". Why? I do not understand something?
