At what level do you need to know JS and React in order to try to work?

At what level do you need to know JS and React in order to qualify for a job as a coder and not a layout designer?
at least to the level of a paid trainee?
Several friends, after layout for 3 months, mastered JS and received an offer, how is this even possible?
Isn't it necessary to study for at least 1 year?
