From personal experience, I usually asked to send a test task or threw off some very primitive code so that the culture of writing code (indents, comments, names of functions and variables) could be seen.
In real work, all code is usually subject to NDA or other restrictions (a standard clause in the contract is that all code and the rights to it belong to the employer), so publishing such code will be a violation of the contract.
From the point of view of the employer, I usually ask you to solve a test task with some atypical feature, always from real practice, fortunately, over the years of work, such tasks have accumulated about a dozen. Moreover, the time to write the code usually takes no more than 10-15 minutes. Then I look just at the accuracy of the task, the cleanliness and clarity of the code, and, most importantly, whether the atypical feature is taken into account. It is usually too lazy to read the provided someone else's code for an incomprehensible task. Plus, sometimes there are conditions that do not allow you to implement the task correctly (as an example, I somehow completed the program for the TSD, where I had to use a ready-made unit for working with a barcode scanner, written by an inept programmer through that very place, but considering how much functionality was tied to these crutches, it was impossible to rewrite the algorithm, and I definitely don’t want to share such code,
