As a programmer, how do you improve your skills?

Good day.
I am a self-taught programmer, knowledge is not systematized. The Internet and books are reference books that help to successfully cope with the tasks set at work. I want to be able to write programs in C# without peeping into the Internet. I have been writing application software for three and a half years, there is no need for good knowledge, so I am gradually degrading. How to be?
I get lost when I ask myself “where to start?”. Patterns? Lambda expressions? Program architecture?
Use books or take courses at MVA? Or write your own software for fun and learn at the same time?
Interested in what helped you personally.

Video courses, books, videos from conferences, development of personal projects. You will always have to peep on the Internet, it is not possible to remember everything.
