Are you sure you want to change the reconciliation and convert the data?

There is an empty table in mysql. I add a new field with ascii_general_ci encoding (`slug`, there will be only a-z0-9- characters) via phpMyAdmin. A message pops up:

This operation will attempt to convert your data into a new reconciliation. In rare cases, especially when the symbol does not exist, this process may result in incorrect data display in the new reconciliation; in such cases, we recommend going back to the original reconciliation and referring to the clues in Corrupted Data.

Are you sure you want to change the reconciliation and convert the data?

What does it mean?! The default is utf8mb4_unicode_ci - maybe that's the issue?

Of course, the point is that the table or the entire database has utf8 encoding.
Don't try to save money, there is no reasonable reason not to use utf in modern programs.
